Does Ar-Rehman" mean Merciful?

Which of The Favours of your Lord will you Deny? (Al-Quran). A Video about the special Favours , Love and Mercy of Allah swt on Every Human Being.

00:10
You know, we use this word all the time
00:11
We say (Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem)
00:13
We say Fatiha all the time:
00:15
(Alhamdu lillaahi Rabbil 'aalameen) (Qur'an 1:2)
00:16
(Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem) (Qur'an 1:3)
00:19
We use the word all the time
00:20
But what does it mean?
00:21
Can anybody give me an English translation that you've read before?
00:25
(Ar-Rahman), anybody?
00:28
"Merciful"
00:29
Some people use "Beneficent", right?
00:32
"Compassionate"
00:33
I don't know, "beneficent", have you ever used "beneficent" in a conversation with anybody before?
00:40
You don't normally use the word "beneficent" in conversation, yes?
00:43
The purpose of translation
00:47
The purpose of translation is so you and I can understand
00:51
And translation should be with words that you can actually use
00:56
That you actually relate to
00:58
If you translate with words that you can't relate to
01:01
Then it defeats the purpose of translation
01:04
It defeats the purpose
01:05
And the other problem is
01:07
The easier word is "Merciful"
01:08
"Merciful" is easy to understand for most people who understand English
01:11
They know the word "merciful"
01:13
But the problem with the word -
01:15
There's also a problem with this word -
01:17
is that it's actually different from the word "Rahma"
01:20
"Mercy" is different from the word "Rahma"
01:22
And I first want to explain that difference to you
01:25
"Ar-Rahma" in Arabic comes from a few things, one of them is "Ar-Rahm"
01:30
"Ar-Rahm" is the stomach of the mother
01:33
When a woman is pregnant, her stomach is called "Rahm"
01:37
And it's called "Rahm" because that baby is taken care of in every way
01:43
"Ar-Rahm" is-
01:45
The child inside the "Rahm" of the mother is taken care of in every way
01:51
Now there's a relationship between the mother and the child
01:54
Does the child know the mother?
01:57
No.
01:58
Does the mother already know the child? Something about the-
02:01
Does she already have love for the child?
02:03
Does the child have love for the mother yet?
02:06
No.
02:06
Is the mother taking care of the child already?
02:10
Yes! In every way.
02:13
In every way!
02:13
The entire world of the child is taken care of by the mother
02:19
And the child has no idea
02:21
No clue
02:22
that he is loved so much
02:24
that the mother is willing to do so much for this child
02:27
and protect it from every danger
02:30
protect it from every danger
02:32
You know, the-
02:34
Normally, human beings when they protect themselves
02:37
When they protect themselves, we protect our head
02:40
We protect our bodies
02:41
But a mother, before she protects anything else, what will she protect?
02:45
Her stomach, when she's expecting
02:47
She's going to be extra careful not to walk in a narrow place
02:50
or to stay away from corners at the table, you know?
02:53
She's going to take extra caution
02:56
That word gives birth to the word "Rahma"
02:59
"Rahma" is not the same as "Mercy"
03:02
Because "mercy" in English is used when you spare someone
03:06
Like, for example, I was going to beat you up but I showed you mercy
03:11
Which means you were expecting punishment
03:14
And when I decided not to punish you, that means I showed you mercy
03:18
Maybe a police officer stops you on the road
03:21
The police man comes over to you
03:23
"Hey! You don't know the speed limit?!"
03:26
"No, I was reciting Surat Ar-Rahman, sorry, I just-"
03:33
"OK, OK, I'll show you mercy, no ticket for you"
03:37
I don't know if that's going to happen, don't try it
03:39
But
03:40
You were expecting punishment, yes?
03:42
You were expecting a ticket
03:44
and then you used the word m- "Oh, he showed me mercy"
03:47
meaning "He let me go"
03:49
In other words, in the English language, most of the time when we use the word "mercy"
03:52
We're actually thinking about punishment
03:56
And then the punishment went away and we thought about mercy
03:58
But the word "Rahma" has nothing to do with punishment
04:01
The word shouldn't even cross your mind, the thought shouldn't even cross your mind
04:05
It has to do with complete care and love
04:08
Someone who has compassion towards you
04:10
Someone who wants to soft and easy with you
04:14
Someone who wants to make things delicate for you
04:16
They understand that you should be handled with care
04:19
You know, there are people who deal with other people delicately, nicely
04:23
And then there are people who are not very delicate, not very nice
04:27
Sometimes you want to get a visa to some country and the person you have to deal with is not very nice
04:32
They don't have "Riqqa" (softness, gentleness)
04:34
But if they have "Rahma", they treat you with repsect
04:36
They start with "Salaam"
04:38
They say "I'll do everything I can to help you"
04:40
And you can notice they care about you
04:42
You're trying to do Hajj (pilgrimage) or something and they care about you
04:44
You know?
04:45
They're showing that "Riqqa" (gentleness), that's Rahma!
04:47
When Allah calls Himself "Ar-Rahman", He is saying that He loves you
04:52
He is saying that He cares for you
04:54
He is saying that He understands that you are very delicate and you must be handled with care
04:59
And Allah will take care of every matter that you have.

How Shaitan Tricks

Shaitan does not necessarily trick into sinning by asking us to do something. He does it little by little. Those little things are not necessarily Haram but they are part of a bigger plan. We must be able to see that and seek Allah's protection

Iblis become Shaitan

How did iblis become shaitan and what mankind should not do to become one of him?

3 Levels of Struggle

3 Levels of struggle that everybody has a choice to make. Which level are you on? :) Whatever good we do is first and foremost benefiting ourselves, the benefit that comes to others is not from us but from Allah swt.

00:10
So three levels of struggle I outline for you at the level of the individual,
00:14
then a little bit past that, tangible goals within a community, tangible
00:18
goals you struggle for and then there is the intangible idea or ideals in a
00:23
society. Those are three levels of struggle. Now, let’s paint those three
00:26
levels of struggle with Islam. Beyond the worldly, and not just in the
00:30
worldly sense, in the otherworldly sense, Islam also asks us to make a
00:35
struggle at the level of the individual. I have to fight my nafs, I have to
00:39
fight Shatan, I have to fight my laziness, I have to fight my anger, I have
00:44
a struggle with myself. That’s the struggle I have to make with myself. I
00:47
have to struggle to become better in my ibaadah, so many duas we make
00:52
are about the struggle of ourselves. “Allah aid me in remembering You;
00:59
Aid me in thanking You; Aid me in perfecting and beautifying my
01:02
worship to You.” That’s a struggle with yourself. Then we go a little bit
01:06
past that, and let’s keep things in the American context, even though this
01:10
is universal value. You say I shouldn’t just worry about myself, we need
01:14
a masjid. We need to have a place where we can worship, where people
01:19
can remember Allah. So masajid got built. And then when masajid got
01:24
built, then there was a bigger concern. We need to educate our children,
01:27
schools got built, Sunday schools got established. Then there were even
01:31
more concerns. We need to help others get the word of Islam. Da’wah
01:34
organizations were created. Right so, these are additional struggles that
01:42
stem from first at the individual level and then at the community level.
01:47
And then even beyond that there are those who are trying, they have an
01:50
open ended target. The target is that one day we want everybody in this
01:53
country to know what real Islam is. That may not be a tangible goal, it
01:57
may be very open ended but they are ready to struggle for it. And they are
02:00
not turned off by the idea that they aren’t seeing tangible results. It’s
02:06
enough for them that it is a worthwhile activity. And any of these efforts
02:10
that we make, for any other human being, they can believe what they
02:14
believe, we believe that every one of these efforts are at the end, more
02:18
than anyone else, benefitting our own selves. They benefit us. They won’t
02:23
necessarily benefit anybody else because we are not capable of that. The
02:28
Prophet (PBUH) benefitted humanity more than anybody else. And yet
02:35
Allah commanded him to say, “Say, ‘I possess not for myself any harm or
02:41
benefit except when Allah should will’…” (Yunus:49). Right, think about
02:45
that. The Prophet (PBUH) is more beneficial to humanity than any other
02:50
human being that ever lived. And he is commanded to say “I don’t
02:54
possess the power to benefit you.” In other words, the benefit the Prophet
02:59
has given us, that we benefit from him, the credit keeps going to him and
03:04
through him to Allah. And that’s the attitude of the believer. The attitude
03:09
of the believer is that whatever good I’m doing, I’m not benefitting
03:12
anybody except myself. That’s who I am benefitting in the end. Me, even
03:18
giving sadaqah is benefitting myself. Me helping build a masjid, helping
03:22
out a school, giving a charitable donation, whatever it may be, is helping
03:26

me. And the benefit that comes to others, is not from me. It is from Allah.

How Shaytaan Attacks

[Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]." [Quran Surah Al-A'raf: verse 16-17]

Talk to your daughters - Parenting Lesson

The new society is full of incredible challenges for our daughters and we need to communicate, boost their self esteem and talk to them to enable them to rise and meet them.

Be responsible with money - Maintaining a balance when it comes to spending.....

00:15
Surah Al-Furqan (25:67) The people who spend money, when they spend

00:24
money, they don’t spend too much.

00:26
And they’re not cheap either.

00:29
They are right in between.

00:33
When you go shopping, you say “I make good money, put it all in, I’ll take two of those,

00:39
I’ll take 3 of those, I’ll take 5 of those.

00:42
What’s the biggest TV you have?”

00:44
Allah says, people who spend but they are responsible when they spend, and they’re

00:50
not cheap either.

00:51
You don’t go to the store with your wife with the cereal, and the milk and the vegetables

00:56
and she’s putting in the milk and you’re like, “You’re gonna drink all that milk?

01:02
You need that milk?

01:03
Get the small one.”

01:04
Don’t do that.

01:05
Don’t be cheap either.

01:06
You have to have a balance in your budget.

01:08
Let me tell you something.

01:10
The economic crisis in the world, the fall of the European economy, the fall of the American

01:16
economy, that is barely recovering, you know where it came from?

01:19
It came from people spending irresponsibly and saying, we can just put it on the credit card.

01:27
And people built upon this debt because they spent outside of their means.

01:32
Quran is teaching us that when you spend money, don’t spend money that is not in your pocket,

01:40
don’t take loans, don’t be addicted to your credit cards, don’t be like that.

01:45
Spend within your means, spend within your budgets.

01:48
A lot of you, MashAllah, are doing well financially, so you say to yourself, “I can afford it.”

01:52
Just because you can afford it doesn’t mean you should spend the money.

01:56
Your money has other uses.

01:58
You can help your family.

01:59
You have a lot of family back home who is not doing well, you can help them.

02:03
You can help people get out of debt.

02:05
Your money can do other good things.

02:09
Instead of just buying yourself things.

02:13
“They maintain a healthy, normal, responsible budget in between.”

Quickly Understand & Memorize Surah Al-Adiyat

This illustrated video will help you quickly understand & memorize Surah Al-Adiyat from Quran.

The main points of interest were as follows:

1/ The message of Quran is not just what it says, but how it says
2/ In this surah we learn about the attitude of human being who has fear of nothing.
3/ Word Adiyat comes from 'Ado which means to have animosity. It means running towards your enemy.
4/ Dabha means panting - meaning it is going fast as it can. Picturing some war
5/ Why is Khair translated as Wealth?
6/ Afla Yalamu - Bosira does not mean turned upside down but means to turn upside down to find a thing
7/ Wa Hussila - means to peel, extract and scrape everything out from the chest
8/ Last surah touched on deeds - this surah goes further deep in the heart - intentions

9/ Khabeer is more powerful then Aleem. Khabeer means when someone is full news and every minute detail of the matter.
